What is Greatitude? Greatitude is a word that popped up today as I woke up early to write in my Journal.
I liked the word and I thought that I had coined it. But…as the story goes…the word already existed. I googled and I found the different interpretations people have given to this word. It is a simple word and as I was writing about it, I had not attached any “mystical” attachment to it.
To me Greatitude = GREATNESS + GRATITUDE + ATTITUDE The word “GREAT” has been for a long time associated with “power, boastfulness, authority”. However,we immediately attach the word “great” to the people we admire. Why?
Being Great is not about the Authority, Power or Riches. It is how Great People have shown us their greatness. It is how they have contributed to “light” a “spark” of inspired admiration.
The biggest opposite to our Greatness is the misconstrued word – HUMILITY: the humility of the “SHEEP” that need “PROTECTION”. We have been taught to be humble at all times: in thoughts, words and actions. The “sheep” that needs protection from the “big bad wolf”. All Great Men you will find have not wanted to “protect” us, rather they attempted to show us a new perspective to our understanding of life.
Humility is not about bowing our head is submission. Humility is about Appreciation and Thankfulness with our head held high.
Strive for Greatness, and feel appreciation because you were born with it. Greatness is the understanding that “You can accomplish and leave a legacy to all to appreciate and admire”
“When Alexander asked the defeated king Porus how he wanted to be treated, he gave the famous reply ‘as a king‘.”
